First off – what exactly is polymeric sand? It is a relatively new method for filling the joints of pavers, made up of a mixture of different sands and a polymer (binding agent). There are many advantages to using polymeric sand for filling joints between paving stones.
- Pavers Stay in Place. Brick pavers can last a long time if they are well maintained, and using polymeric sand in between your pavers will help to care for your investment by keeping them in place. If your brick pavers are not installed and secured properly they can shift and crack, making your driveway or walkway unattractive and unsafe.
- Resists the Elements. Whatever material is used between your brick pavers, it needs to withstand the elements. Polymeric sand will not dissolve or wash away when exposed to moisture but is flexible enough to adapt to the gentle expansion and contraction that occurs between changing seasons.
- Weed and pest prevention. No one likes to have weeds growing through the cracks of their brick paver walkway, driveway or deck. Weed growth is not only unattractive but it also compromises the integrity of your brick pavers. Similarly, ants and other pests are prevented from coming up between pavers when polymeric sand is used.

It looks great and our client can rest assured that her walkway will be well maintained for years to come.
